BirderBlog: Small Business Website of the Day
by Brian Brown (follow me on Twitter): March 18, 2006Today's website is for the birds. I know I should have resisted, but I didn't, so you can moan all you want to.
Actually, the website is for bird watchers, BirderBlog.com. Written by Laura Erickson, BirderBlog acts as a soft sell for binoculars.com, the site's parent.
What it is
A blog for birders, or bird watchers as us laymen like to call them.
Features
Frequent posts. And I mean frequent. I'm not sure if Laura and her computer were perhaps fused together in some freak industrial accident, but it appears she never leaves the keyboard, unless it's to find birds.

Since it's just about spring, wouldn't it be nice to have a story about the sparrows returning to Capistrano like they do every year on March 19? No, that would be lame. Instead, let's have a story about buzzards.
This is an especially funny story to me because a friend of mine told me how excited she was the other day to see a turkey vulture in upstate New York. She is my birder friend and she knew that meant spring was coming. This revelation seemed to be lost on her classmates though. No accounting for taste.
One last note...this is yet another Minnesotan company. For the record, I've only been to Minnesota once in my life, and for that I almost died! I'm not trying to find blogs only from that state.
What this reminds me of are the small towns you visit where it seems every homeowner has a Kirby vacuum cleaner. You can almost see the exact path the Kirby salesman made across the landscape selling his wares and then you find a couple of homes that don't have Kirby's and you know the salesman didn't come to that town.
I imagine some blogging specialist roaming Minnesota convincing businesses to blog in the same way. God bless you MN.

TXDAVE, I don't review blogs whose source of revenue comes from the advertising on the site.
Sorry.
