Freewheel Bike: Small Business Blog of the Day
by Brian Brown (follow me on Twitter): April 23, 2006Freewheel Bike is the blog for a bike shop in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Features
Damn good blog. There are several photos and posts for a variety of interests. Unlike most blogs we've featured, Freewheel enjoys contributions from several people on the staff which gives the blog a very well-rounded appeal.
In addition the posts, the blog features a directory of other bicycle bloggers in their area as well as bicycle industry blogs. Many other resources may be found in their navigation bar making this a great all-around bicycling site no matter where you live.
Favorite Post
The very first post (from April 14) grabbed my attention and after skimming through several others, I still liked it best for the photos. Here's the photo I really loved:
Further Comments
This is a great blog. It's fun, colorful with the photos, engaging, and personal. I really get a sense that the staff is friendly and excited to see their customers when they arrive at the store.
However, I hated two things about this blog: 1) you can't leave comments, and 2) there doesn't appear to be any way to link to individual stories.
This leaves visitors out of the conversation and forces them to hunt for a particular story that someone else may want them to read. For example, I would normally link directly to my favorite post (above), but there doesn't appear to be any way to do this which means my visitors will have to hunt the Freewheel website to find the post I'm talking about.
But I still love the blog. :)
