Laura Erickson: Small Business Blog Interview
by Brian Brown (follow me on Twitter): April 7, 2006Laura wrote to me a couple of days ago to answer my questions regarding BirderBlog featured on March 18, 2006.
Pajama Market: What has the response been from your customers/clients?
Laura Erickson: I'm getting about 10 emails a week now from customers asking me my opinion of various optics. Of course, the vast majority of response I get is more about birds.
PJ: What types of things about your work day inspire you to write a post on your blog?
LE: Seeing birds en route to work, out my desk window, or when I'm out birding. Also I'm on a lot of birding and conservation listservs, so I keep up to date on various current issues that send me to the keyboard. Really, birds permeate most moments of my life, and I'm Irish enough to enjoy communicating about it.
PJ: What have been the biggest surprises with your blog so far?
LE: Getting emails from soldiers in Iraq asking me to identify birds for them. Now they send me photos that I post. Also, in conjunction with putting together a blog that will attract readers, I've had the opportunity to take a bazillion photos of birds--it's been shocking to discover that I take pretty good photos.
Also it's a big surprise that over 1000 people visit it every weekday now.
PJ: What blogging program do you use for the blog? Did you create this blog yourself? How do you like the program?
LE: It's called fooBlog--One of the IT people at our company created it and designed the look. I love it.
