Pitstop Cafe: Small Business Blog of the Day

The other day I suggested that business blogs should focus on writing posts that relate directly to their products:

"For example, if you run an ice cream shop, we don't care about what you did on vacation, we care about ice cream and that's what the blog should focus on."

This got me thinking...what if I did a search on Technorati for "ice cream?" Would anything show up? Is there a Ben & Jerry's blog? (Answer: no there isn't, and even if there was I wouldn't feature it because B&J is hardly a small business anymore).

What I did find was pleasantly surprising.

What it is
Pitstop Cafe is a hip cafe in...Singapore! Yes, that Singapore. From glancing at the site, it appears to be a brand new cafe run mainly by four highly caffeinated young entrepreneurs. I'm not sure about this. These four contributors to the blog may also simply be homeless college students who have agreed to write the cafe's blog in exchange for free bottomless cappuccino.

Features
Overwhelming personality. This blog completely lets you in to the world of this cafe. I feel like I'm there as I read the posts. It's on the other side of the world! It's tough to be farther away from a place than Singapore is to Vermont, and yet, I'm so there when I'm reading about Jenga tournaments, Timo's hair, and of course, Pitstop Fetish Evenings.

Favorite Post
How do I pick one? Ok, this post really brings together the essence of this blog to me. It describes a bit of the relationship between the four authors of the blog in words and pictures. *Astroboy was kind enough to tell me that this picture includes only three members of the Pitstop crew while he is taking the photo.

I wish I were as hip as these four nuts! Their posts crack me up and have made the Pitstop Cafe a "must visit" on my next trip to Singapore to become a "Pitstopper."

However, I hope they aren't holding their breath until they see me, it may be a while.
