Serge the Concierge: Small Business Blog of the Day

by Brian Brown (follow me on Twitter): April 10, 2006

I see a trend here. Last week we featured Ernie the Attorney, a relatively famous lawyer blog. This week, we're starting with Serge the Concierge. Perhaps I should have waited till I had three more and then done a whole week of alliterative business blogs?

Serge What it is
Serge the Concierge is a blog written by Serge Lescouarnec who provides concierge services from Montclair, New Jersey. His websites for the services include New Jersey Concierges and Montclair Concierges. Here is a list of services you might need a concierge for.

Features
Reviews of restaurants, gifts, books, and suggestions for business people. Lots of photos make the blog visually interesting and Serge has a comfortable writing style that makes this blog a nice, casual read. I feel relaxed visiting this site, thinking about the finer things in life.

Favorite Post
The fabulous chocolaty drink Yoo Hoo appears in a post from September:

Last friday, I was on assignment to deliver 4 six packs of bottles of Yoo-hoo!. My client, a marketing firm made it clear that it had to be bottles only and cold when delivered.

Why is this my favorite? Simply because I am imagining all of these cold bottles being poured over someones head.

Let me explain. I began playing "Rotisserie" or fantasy baseball in the early 90s. Traditionally, the winner of Rotisserie baseball wins two things: 1) the prize money accumulated throughout the season, and 2) a Yoo Hoo shower. In Vermont, this meant standing in the snow in the middle of February and having the other players in the league slowly pour Yoo Hoo over your head before running into the house for a hot shower to counteract hypothermia. (I found a picture of a Yoo Hoo shower from another Rotisserie baseball league called the ltbnl or The League to Be Named Later.)

Further Comments
One difference between this blog and the others I've highlighted so far. This is the first blog of a type that I will call a "reference blog" which means that the vast majority of the posts simply refer to posts on other blogs or websites. Therefore, this site is more of a portal to other websites than a destination for visitors. But the portal approach still serves Serge's niche audience to guarantee they will be back again and again.

I would like to see a few more posts talking about Serge's job. Like the Yoo Hoo story, I want to know what kind of unusual things clients ask Serge to do?
