Why I now hate Typepad
by Brian Brown (follow me on Twitter): April 3, 2006For the second time in an hour, I'm pulling my hair out because of TypePad.
I'm new to the platform, so I don't know all the quirks with it yet, and this problem won't happen again because now I know better, but this is what happened...
While finishing today's Small Business Blog of the Day, I clicked on 'save' and TypePad told me there was some sort of server error. I checked the website and saw that the story had not been uploaded. I hit back and found that my story was GONE since it was in a form field. AHHHH! I had just wasted 45 minutes and now had to completely rewrite my post!
Ok, so I rewrote it, taking maybe 30 minutes this time. Meanwhile, I received an email from TypePad saying they had a problem with one of their servers, but now it was corrected so I can continue using the program (thanks a lot).
I saved my new story, no problem, it went through fine. I checked it on the website and it looked good, then scrolled down...AHHHHHHH! My ORIGINAL story got posted after all!!! I didn't have to rewrite the story, as it turns out. Grrrrrrrrrrr. So I erased one of the versions and now it's fine, just time wasted.
So for now, I hate TypePad, but perhaps I'll like it again in a few days.

Been there, done that. Sad thing is ... for what you pay for Typepad, you could have your own domain and website.

Yep, I totally agree. I'll be playing with a site done on WordPress soon to have a real feel for a comparison. It just annoys me when things like this happen period. How long has the internet been around...and they're still having these problems?

I've learned my lesson with posting and "errors". I now write everything in a Word document first before I attempt to post it. With seven blogs I have not time to waste!

I've had similar experiences in the past. I now almost always hit the "crtl+A" and "crtl+C" keys before I hit the publish keys just to make sure I don't lose what I've written.
BTW, I appreciate your post on Tony, the Hawaiian Realtor. I just did an interview with him for a book I'm writing on real estate blogging.
