Green Cine Daily: Small Business Blog of the Day
by Brian Brown (follow me on Twitter): May 21, 2006If you like watching movies, and independent film in particular, there is one website that will quickly jump to your top ten list and that website is a blog. Today's blog is the best example I've see yet of a company who decided to blog about their entire industry, and as a result, became the website for that industry.
What it is
Green Cine Daily is the movie review blog for Green Cine, an online DVD rental and video-on-demand company based in San Francisco. The blog is written by employee David Hudson with other writers' contributions from time to time.
Features
Tons and tons of movie reviews, emphasis on independent films. Posts include reports from film festivals all over the world, as well as interviews, short biographies, and general information relating to the independent film industry.
Favorite Post
Seattle Dispatch 1 is an old post from the blog dated a year ago in May about the Seattle International Film Festival. This is one of the "guest" columns as it is actually written by Sean Axmaker, film critic for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. I chose this post because it highlights one of my favorite movies from over the past year called Me and You and Everyone We Know.
"As small and modest as they come, it's quirky and compassionate and even potentially discomforting sexual elements are oddly innocent and harmless. This is a world where people are not predators and trust is rewarded with affection."
Further Comments
Phenomenal. I can't imagine improving this blog, that's how good it is! There are two approaches you can take when creating a small business blog: 1) write a blog that talks about your company, or 2) write a blog that talks about your industry. This is a top example of an industry-focused blog that has been used to affix the company at the top of its niche. The result is the blog commanding absolute authority in their field, in this case resulting in 80,000 visitors a month according to a San Francisco Chronicle article about the company.
