Sweet Riot: Small Business Blog of the Day
by Brian Brown (follow me on Twitter): May 3, 2006Just in time for Mother's Day, today's entry comes from Typepad Featured Blogs, a blog that highlights a wide range of interesting bloggers that use Typepad for their blogging platform.
More on Typepad Featured Blogs later this week...(Update: Guess who was featured? 5-9)
On April 17, Typepad featured an interesting company called Sweet Riot that is using the power of blogging to extend its very niche food product.
What it is
Sweet Riot is the blog for the company of the same name that sells chocolate covered cacao nibs. "Chief Rioter" Sarah Endline writes the blog, although exactly how "Chief Rioter" translates to traditional company hierarchy titles is somewhat of a mystery to me. I think it's near the top.
Features
Pretty darn good company blog. Sarah is scarily enthusiastic, writes often, provides a ton of pictures, and mixes up the posts really well. For example, currently on the home page of the blog, in order, is a post about a store displaying Sweet Riot's products, a profile of an employee, a post about another store display (this store being one the author shopped at as a child), a round-up of an annual benefit the company was featured at, and an update of what the employees did on Earth Day. Phew!
Favorite Post
As much as I hate gossip, I couldn't help but get sucked in to the post about Sarah And Megan being on Emeril Live. Maybe it's a silly fascination with celebrities. Maybe it's the fact that their signs were confiscated during the first commercial. Maybe I thought their picture looked cute. Whatever the reason, here's a quote:
"...at the 1st break, the producer's told us we couldn't wave the signs and that we had to wear jackets over our shirts?!! You would think we were criminals. It truly is amazing how the signs and the word 'riot' scares people."
Further Comments
The most notable feature of this blog is that Sarah's face is on...like...almost every post. If you can't figure out what Sarah looks like, you must have your images option turned 'off' in your browser.
Seriously though, this is a superbly done blog, and will probably disqualify as a Small Business Blog of the Day within a couple of months as no longer being a small business.
(And it looks like Sweetriot Peaces are available down the road in Morrisville (VT) at Apple Tree Natural Foods Market. I might have to take a road trip tomorrow to try them.)
