The Fundit: Small Business Blog of the Day
by Brian Brown (follow me on Twitter): May 5, 2006Fund raising is a tough job for any organization. Today's company makes a business from teaching organizations how to fund raise. That's pretty cool. Thanks to Daniel from the University of British Columbia for suggesting this blog.
What it is
The Fundit is a blog about fund raising from Canada. In the blog, you'll find advice on the best methods for raising money for your organization, notes on businesses that rely on fund raising, and odds and ends having to do with fund raising. The blog is written by Andrea Seale, who works for Blueprint Fund raising and Communications in Vancouver, Canada. Blueprint works with non-profits, helping them tap fund raising markets for their organizations.
Features
A good mix of interesting posts and lots and lots of photos (as you probably already know, I LOVE photos).
Favorite Post
Most of the posts are pretty interesting. Again, this is a blog I have no personal experience or attachment to, so it should be boring to me, yet Andrea has written the blog so that even I get sucked into her enthusiasm. Here's a post where Andrea breaks down the types of donations an organization needs to raise $1 million.
Further Comments
Interestingly, the Blueprint's non-blog website is terrible. It's totally done in Flash (so 1990s), contains only 2 pages that I could find, and tells us nothing about the company. The blog is where things are happening, including telling visitors about upcoming classes in fund raising. I have to wonder why they even bother with a formal website? Why not just kick over entirely to the blog and have one great site?
