The Tap Room: Small Business Blog of the Day
by Brian Brown (follow me on Twitter): May 16, 2006I should have done a UK week. We've now featured at least two blogs from England, one from Scotland, and one started by an englishman, though the company is located in South Africa. Lets add one more from England and call it a day.
What it is
The Tap Room is the blog for the English pub, The Shooter's Arms in Lancashire. While the landlord of the pub is listed as Dave Coffee, the posts are written by "Woody." That would be Paul Woodhouse, not the Woody pictured below.
Features
Everything pub related. This includes drinking, carousing, darts, football (that's soccer on this side of the pond), and pub etiquette. We love photos and The Tap Room gives us lots of photos, sometimes in the posts, sometimes as a photo gallery from the navigation bar.
Favorite Post
We didn't have to look far to find a favorite. The first post I read is about a "beer belly," a contraption that allows you to sneak beer into sporting events.
"However, my only quandary is: What if you already have a beer belly?"
Further Comments
This is a silly blog. Silly and effective. I think Woody really manages to capture a very friendly pub atmosphere with his writing, making the pub a 'must stop' for anyone who visits Lancashire.
And yes, this is the second post in a row from the Lancashire area in England. This is no coincidence. Paul Woodhouse writes both blogs from Lancashire that we have featured (the other being The Tinbasher). Why the preferential treatment? I actually didn't make the connection that Paul wrote both blogs until I was nearly done writing this review. Just because he writes both, I found no reason to disqualify him from the second blog. I enjoyed them both.

And it just so happens that I work and blog for both Butler Sheetmetal and the Shooters Arms with the pub being a couple of miles up the road from BSM HQ.
There'll be those thinking I'm paying you some kind of retainer.
For shame I daren't mention any others.
I'm glad you enjoyed The Tap Room as I must admit to enjoying writing it.

Trust me folks, Paul isn't greasing the wheels. Just happened to hit two of his blogs at the same time.
