Blog Don'ts #1: Don't apologize when you miss a few days
by Brian Brown (follow me on Twitter): June 15, 2006It's been a couple of days since I've reviewed a blog. I don't get a chance every weekday to write a post, but I try to make it up on the weekend to complete five reviews a week. I've been pretty good at achieving this goal, but things happen and I don't always have the time. This happens to the best of us.
The thing is, when this happens to you, don't apologize for it. Readers know you will have days where you are busy, you are out of town, you are going on a first date, someone came to visit, you are climbing trees, or you just needed a day off.
What readers hate are apologies. Don't apologize to your readers, just give them something valuable now that you're back. They'll be happy to find something new and interesting instead of something whiney and off-topic (unless your blog is actually about apologizing).
For the record, I was teaching my favorite class in the whole world on Monday and Tuesday (beginning Photoshop) and meeting with one of my clients on Wednesday (ACTtour.com) before driving seven hours to collapse in bed. But now I'm at my computer with the afternoon free to blog blog blog. Geek heaven!
