Pajama Market returns
by Brian Brown (follow me on Twitter): July 19, 2006
Some of you may be asking, "Is Brian gone? Is Pajama Market over? Will they ever bring the classic science show 'Beakman's World' back on the air?"
I can't answer the last one (I can only hope), but I'm not gone and PJ isn't over, it's just beginning.
I've moved to the Heartland (more pictures on Flickr), and if it's true that moving is one of the major stresses a person goes through in life, than I've just experienced three lifetimes of moving. Here's the move by the numbers:
- 1 The number of floods that affected us during the move.
- 12.5 The number of hours it took to get from Ithaca to Burlington, VT the day after the flood.
- 6 The number of hours it normally takes to get from Ithaca to Burlington.
- 4.5 The number of hours after I had crossed it, that a 25-foot section of I-88 was washed out, killing 2 truck drivers--one driving each direction.
- 3 The number of moving companies we used. An Enterprise van to move my things from Burlington to Ithaca. A Budget van to move our things from Ithaca to Elmira. An ABF tractor trailer to move things from Elmira to Wisconsin. The Budget truck was an emergency rental as we were planning on having the ABF truck dropped off in Ithaca to load, but the big flood put the tractor trailer we were going to use under water.
- 20 The number of hours to drive from Burlington, VT to Janesville, WI.
- 2 The number of walkie talkies we used to amuse ourselves while we were driving different cars. These things saved us a couple of times as we were separated by toll booths in a few spots.
- 3 The number of days it took to unload the truck once it arrived in Wisconsin.
- 2 The flights of stairs everything had to be dragged up. Not to mention the two flights of stairs in the apartment itself. (I know I know, boo hoo)
- 5 The number of Feng Shui books consulted to arrange the contents of the apartment. Not that they helped.
To top off the move, when I finally sat down to check my email three days after settling in, I couldn't access it. My Gmail had been hijacked, as it turns out, and for four days, I didn't have any way to get into my 7000+ messages in my email account (more on this later).
Now that it's all over, Pajama Market is resuming. Look for new Small Business Blogs of the Day, new tips and strategies, and chapters from the book I'm working on.
Welcome back, and thanks for visiting.

I was beginning to worry ... glad to see you posting again, Brian, and congrats on your hectic yet successful move. We've just moved three times in four months ourselves, so I know what it feels like!
I look forward to some good ol' Heartland biz blog reviews soon.

Welcome to Wisconsin. Our winters ought to be a walk in the park for a Vermonter. Two sites you should bookmark for a sampling of Wisconsin blogs:
