Tutorial: How to create a post using Typepad
by Brian Brown (follow me on Twitter): February 2, 2007One of my clients is very new to blogging and asked me if I wouldn't mind writing down the instructions for creating a post using the Typepad blogging platform. I told him I would and decided to share the instructions with everyone in case there were others who might find them helpful.
How to create a post in Typepad
1) You don't need a special program to create a post since it's all done through the Typepad website. Visit Typepad.com and click on "members sign in" at the very top of the page. Type in your username and password and that will bring you to the blogging control panel you see below:
2) Click on the button "Begin a new post" (circled above) and you are brought to a screen that allows you to type in text or copy-and-paste text you have already typed in another program like Word. (refer to illustration below)
3) Add a Title for your blog post. This will act as the "headline" for the post, so make it descriptive and inviting, and something that clearly indicates what the post is about like how a newspaper headline works. This headline will be important for search engines to figure out what the post is about, so nothing too fancy or difficult to understand. (refer to illustration below)
4) Choose the Category of your post. Make up a new one if there isn't currently a category that makes sense. For example, I just made up a category called "Tutorials" specifically for this post. (refer to illustration below)
5) Use the word processing tools to highlight your text using bold, italic, colored text, indenting a paragraph, or creating a list. (refer to illustration below)
6) Upload a photo into your post. (refer to illustration below)
7) Spellcheck your post. (refer to illustration below)
8) Insert Technorati Tags. This just means type in a few keywords that describe what this post is about. Look at the bottom of this post to see what keywords I have chosen. This helps the Technorati blog search engine (one of the top two blog search engines on the planet) categorize your blog post. (refer to illustration below)
9) Save and then open up your blog in another window and bask in the glory of what you have created. (This is where I usually find a typo that spellcheck missed, so I go back to Typepad and edit the post before anyone notices.)
